Ancient Egypt Unveiled: inside the Palace Museum's blockbuster 2026 exhibition

Since opening on 20 November 2025, the Hong Kong Palace Museum's special exhibition "Ancient Egypt Unveiled: Treasures from Egyptian Museums" has become one of the museum's most talked-about shows, drawing more than 75,000 visitors and generating what local media have dubbed "Egypt mania" across the city. The exhibition is scheduled to run in Gallery 9 through 31 August 2026.

What's on display

The exhibition brings together 250 objects from seven major Egyptian museums, jointly organised by the Hong Kong Palace Museum and Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, alongside recent archaeological finds from Saqqara. It's supported by Bank of China (Hong Kong) as the museum's strategic partner, with Cathay and UnionPay International as major sponsors.

Beyond the headline show

The Palace Museum has also opened two new thematic exhibitions pairing multimedia installations by Hong Kong artists inspired by Chinese mythical creatures with historical Chinese paintings and calligraphy, including works donated by Hong Kong artist and connoisseur Wong Kwan Shut. The museum continues its strategic partnership with Beijing's Palace Museum, building on the five thematic exhibitions that opened alongside the museum in 2022.
