Fruit stalls & tropical produce
Street-level fruit stalls are a genuine everyday fixture in most Hong Kong neighbourhoods, selling a mix of imported and regionally grown tropical fruit, often pre-cut and bagged for eating on the go.
Seasonal favourites
Lychee and mango both have strong seasonal followings in the warmer months, while dragon fruit, papaya and pomelo are available more consistently year-round — pomelo also features specifically in Mid-Autumn Festival traditions covered in our festival planning guide.
Durian
Hong Kong has a genuinely enthusiastic durian following, with dedicated stalls and even durian-specific dessert shops during peak season — its strong smell means it's banned from the MTR and many hotels, worth knowing before buying a whole fruit to take back to your room.
Fresh-cut fruit stalls
Street stalls selling pre-cut fruit in cups or bags are a convenient, inexpensive snack option found across most shopping districts, a good lighter alternative to the street food and bakery snacks covered elsewhere in our Food department.
Where to look
Wet markets (see our wet markets guide) generally offer the freshest and most competitively priced fruit, while street-level stalls near MTR stations prioritise convenience over the very best prices.
