Nightlife & bars
Hong Kong's nightlife has grown well beyond its old reputation as a strictly expat, Lan Kwai Fong-centred scene, though that strip remains a reasonable starting point for a first night out.
Lan Kwai Fong & SoHo
A dense cluster of bars on a short stretch of Central streets, historically the go-to nightlife area and still the busiest, especially on weekend nights.
Rooftop bars
Hong Kong's skyline lends itself naturally to rooftop and high-floor bars — several major hotels operate ones open to non-guests, with the harbour view doing most of the work.
Beyond Central
Wan Chai has its own longer-running nightlife strip with a different, slightly less polished character, while a newer wave of speakeasy-style and craft-cocktail bars has spread into Sheung Wan and parts of Kowloon.
