Kwun Tong, up close
Kwun Tong was one of Hong Kong's major manufacturing districts through the mid-20th century, and like Chai Wan on the Island (see our Chai Wan guide), its older factory buildings are now in the middle of a genuine second life as creative and design space.
Converted industrial buildings
Former factory towers now house design studios, small offices and creative businesses, taking advantage of larger, more affordable floor space than more central districts — a working transformation still visibly in progress rather than a finished, curated precinct.
The Kwun Tong waterfront
A revitalised harbourfront promenade gives water views back across to Kowloon Bay and beyond, part of a broader effort to open up more of East Kowloon's coastline to public access.
APM and everyday shopping
A large shopping mall and surrounding streets serve the district's substantial residential population, giving Kwun Tong a genuinely local, functional character alongside its creative-industry reinvention.
Getting there
Well served by the MTR Kwun Tong Line, making it straightforward to combine with a day exploring East Kowloon alongside Kowloon Bay and the wider area.
