Mui Wo, up close

Mui Wo sits on Lantau's eastern coast, connected to Central by a direct ferry service, and has long served as a quieter, more low-key entry point to the island than the Tung Chung side.

The ferry pier and town

A small, easy-going town has grown around the ferry pier, with a handful of restaurants and a genuinely relaxed, small-town pace distinct from Tung Chung's new-town development on the other side of the island.

Silvermine Waterfall

A short walk inland leads to Silvermine Waterfall, named for a small 19th-century silver mine nearby — an easy, family-friendly walk rather than a serious hike.

Gateway to South Lantau

Mui Wo is a practical starting point for South Lantau's beaches and the longer coastal trail toward Pui O and beyond, an area with a noticeably different, more rural character than the rest of the island.

Getting there

A direct ferry from Central to Mui Wo takes under an hour, making it a straightforward, MTR-free way to reach Lantau's quieter side.
