Lamma Island, up close

Lamma is car-free like Cheung Chau but noticeably greener and less densely built, with its two main settlements, Yung Shue Wan and Sok Kwu Wan, connected by a well-marked coastal walking trail rather than a road.

Yung Shue Wan

The larger of the two villages and the main ferry point from Central, with a laid-back, slightly bohemian reputation and a growing café scene.

The coastal trail to Sok Kwu Wan

A straightforward, well-shaded walk of about an hour connects the two villages, passing a beach roughly halfway — a good introduction to Hong Kong hiking for those not ready for a full country-park trail.

Sok Kwu Wan

Known for its row of waterfront seafood restaurants, many with the same live-tank ordering style found in Sai Kung, and usually the endpoint before catching a separate ferry back to Central.
