Tsing Yi, up close

Tsing Yi sits between Kowloon and Lantau, connected by a cluster of major bridges, and has shifted over recent decades from a heavily industrial island into one of the busiest residential and transport hubs in the western harbour area.

A transport interchange

Tsing Yi station is a major MTR interchange, sitting on the line to the airport and Disneyland as well as the Tung Chung Line — many visitors pass through without stopping, though the island itself has genuine, if unglamorous, things to see.

Industrial legacy

Container terminals, oil refineries and shipyards still operate on parts of the island, a visible reminder of Hong Kong's manufacturing and shipping-port history even as residential towers have filled in much of the rest.

Rambler Crest and green space

Away from the industrial areas, the island has a surprising amount of hillside green space and waterfront parkland, popular with local residents for an easy walk with views of the surrounding bridges and harbour.

Getting there

Well served by the MTR, and effectively unavoidable if travelling between the airport or Disneyland and the city centre by rail — worth a short stop if you have time to spare on that route.
