Peng Chau, up close
Peng Chau is one of Hong Kong's smallest inhabited outlying islands, car-free and walkable end to end in well under an hour, with a noticeably slower pace than Cheung Chau or Lamma.
An industrial past
The island was once home to industries including incense and match manufacturing and a lime kiln, a history now mostly visible through a handful of preserved sites rather than any ongoing production.
Finger Hill
A short, steep climb to the island's highest point gives a rewarding view over the surrounding waters and neighbouring islands for relatively little effort compared to the longer hikes covered elsewhere on this site.
A quiet village feel
Narrow lanes, small local shops and a genuinely unhurried pace make Peng Chau a good choice for visitors who've already seen Cheung Chau or Lamma and want a quieter, less-visited alternative with a similar car-free island character.
Getting there
Regular ferries run from Central, with the crossing taking under an hour — among the more straightforward outlying islands to reach on a whim rather than requiring the careful timetable planning some smaller islands need.
