Sheung Wan, up close
Sheung Wan sits just west of Central, older and generally quieter, with a character built on trade rather than finance — much of it still visible in its street-level shops.
Dried seafood and medicine streets
Des Voeux Road West and the surrounding lanes hold a dense concentration of shops selling dried seafood, shark fin and traditional Chinese medicine ingredients, a trade that has operated here for generations.
Hollywood Road
Running along Sheung Wan's upper edge, Hollywood Road is the city's best-known strip for antiques, curios and contemporary art galleries, anchored by Man Mo Temple at its eastern end.
PMQ and the newer scene
A former married police quarters building has been converted into PMQ, a design and retail space that's brought a newer, more contemporary layer to the district's older trading-street character.
